Welcoming Speech from Mr. President
Dear Members of Shorter University International Club:
I hope this year has been a great year for you all. And I am hoping you all have been doing very well in classes, and on the fields for those who play sports. On this very special occasion, please allow me, humbled and grateful for the trust you have bestowed, as the new President of Shorter University International Society (SUIS), to warmly greet you, and to express a huge appreciation to those who have kept this society alive from the day it was established until day in the indefinite time. I am sure, and we are sure, this society will be a long-lasting society. It is known that this society is a place for people from various backgrounds and different nationalities to share their thoughts and their feelings to others. Despite their differences, they are willing to come together and collaborating on the same mission: to make college life more valuable through experiences and, of course, more fun. Then, who are the people in this context? The people are neither you, nor me; but, the people are us.
I personally thank Mrs. Linda Palumbo who has been guiding this society with her excellent views, ideas, programs, and her big concerns especially for International students. As she said on the official Shorter University's website on international students page, I quoted, "When a student is in a foreign country, thousands of miles away from family and friends, he/she needs support, guidance and encouragement," she has been helping and providing us with anything we need in order to fulfill our duties as college students to reach our successes in the future. I also thank to all previous presidents of the society for their services and devotions to the society, as well as the cooperation they have shown from year to year. And the most importantly, members of the society. You all are the greatest people in the world. We are all different, but we are all united. No matter where you are all from, we communicate, we play, we smile, and we laugh together.
Thank you very much Thecla Nshimiye for your willingness and your kindness to assist me as the Vice President of the society, Waithira Musa as the secretary, and Alvaro Gonzalez as the treasurer of the society. We, as the officers, cannot walk by ourselves. We need all of you to keep this society going well, to do the programs, and to achieve our common goals. We are all open minded persons, and we will definitely consider all your supportive and brilliant ideas, suggestions, or even criticisms about anything. What you need to do is just tell us. Let's make this society growing and expanding by working as a group, contributing and participating on each event, discussion, vote, meeting, or activity.
Finally, as a President of the society on behalf of the officers, please allow me to invite and welcome you to the "New Faces, New Vision, and New Spirit of Shorter University International Society." This society is NOT just for International Students, this society is for anybody who is interested in joining the International Society. Let's make everything better, brighter, more fun, and more entertaining.
